A Shared Challenge for Humanity:
Addressing a Common Concern
Global energy-related CO2 emissions increased by 0.9% or 321 Mt in 2022, reaching a record high of over 36.8 Gt. “In order to achieve the pathways aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, global CO2 emissions should be declining by approximately 5% this year,” stated senior researcher Glen Peters at CICERO, based in Norway. However, current projections indicate that CO2 emissions are expected to rise by a range of 0.5-1.5%.
Lucky straps' sustainability
The Global Crisis of Waste: A World in Peril
Every year, we dispose of a staggering 2.12 billion tons of waste. If all this waste were loaded onto trucks, they could encircle the globe 24 times. This astonishing quantity of waste is largely because 99 percent of the items we purchase are discarded within 6 months.
How much carbon is generated during product production and transportation? Why do we find ourselves repeatedly buying the same products? Everyone is engrossed in marketing and advertisements, but who will prioritize product quality for the customers?
Instead of allocating the majority of our funds to advertising, Lucky Straps consistently invests in product innovation, encompassing various aspects such as design, materials, and after-sales services.
Lucky Straps is committed to sustainability through the provision of high-quality products that come with a two-year warranty. We firmly believe that this practical and efficient approach is the best way to contribute to sustainability. We refrain from making empty promises and using grandiose words. Our aim is for our long-lasting products to accompany customers for extended periods, saving them money and reducing the impact of low-quality alternatives.
Lucky Straps’ high-quality products are designed to be durable and long-lasting, resulting in reduced product waste. When we opt for products that are built to last, we decrease the need for frequent replacements, thereby reducing the associated CO2 emissions from manufacturing and transportation. Additionally, high-quality items often undergo efficient production processes that minimize energy consumption and emissions.
Let’s unite in safeguarding our planet by ceasing the production and usage of low-quality products together.
The Global Threat:
Dumping Waste Endangers People Worldwide
Toxic and hazardous wastes are frequently exported to developing countries, a practice commonly referred to as the global waste trade. In a specific incident, 4,000 tons of toxic waste were deceitfully labeled as “fertilizers” and shipped to Nigeria. Among the waste were 150 tons of highly toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which are known to cause hormone deficiencies and impair cognitive development in children.
The dumpsites resulting from the global waste trade share a common characteristic: they pose significant threats to human health and the environment in the affected communities. Approximately 64 million people are directly impacted by dumpsites created through the global waste trade.
The Urgency of Tackling CO2 Emissions
According to the Emissions Gap Report 2022 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), we find ourselves falling significantly short of the ambitious target set by the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C, with a preference for 1.5°C. The current policies in place indicate a distressing trajectory towards a temperature rise of 2.8°C by the end of the century. Even with the implementation of the current pledges, we can only expect a modest reduction to a temperature increase of 2.4-2.6°C by the end of the century, depending on whether the pledges are conditional or unconditional.
Every fraction of a degree matters
As climate impacts intensify, the world is moving further away from the Paris Agreement goals. Currently there is no credible pathway to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Even if countries meet their climate commitments, emissions will only reduce by 10% by 2030.
